MARCELINE, MO. (2009-11-13) The municipal court in Marceline goes under scrutiny as State auditors complete their report.
The audit of Marceline's municipal court finds much room for improvements. Auditors say money received from city tickets are not always posted in a timely basis, bank reconciliations are not performed, and the duties of handling the money-like receiving, recording, and depositing are not adequately segregated. Auditors also round the computer containing the municipal division information is too open with too many people able to access the court files. Investigators also say the police department does not use a number system when issuing tickets, so they can't be assured all tickets issued in Marceline were properly submitted for processing.
