GENTRY COUNTY (2009-11-30) The State has released the results of its audit of Gentry County.
It finds problems with the prosecuting attorney's office as well as fund transfers within Gentry County government. State auditors say administrative fee transfers from the special road and bridge fund into Gentry County's general revenue fund were excessive finding they exceeded 5% of the actual disbursements by about $40,000 for the 3 years ending in December of 2007. State investigators sight numerous violations of the County commission's handling of topics in closed session meetings and the State sunshine law. And they discovered the prosecuting attorney was suggesting to traffic violators of a quote "Donation" of up to 300 to the Gentry County law enforcement restitution fund to reduce their charges. Auditors say in cases were violators were required to give to that fund, several included speeders, which violates the law allowing such donations. Investigators also found improvements are needed in the system to account for all bad check complaints to the Gentry County prosecuting attorney's office.
