MARYVILLE, MO (2008-11-07) Northwest Missouri lawmaker Charlie Shields has become the top leader in the Missouri Senate.
The St. Joseph republican is chosen by his party as the Senate's President Pro-Tem.
He'll replace outgoing Pro-Tem Mike Gibbons, who lost in his bid for the State Attorney General's seat.
The majority Republican caucus chose Shields in a meeting yesterday.
He'll officially have the job once lawmakers convene in session and vote on the appointment.
Joplin representative Ron Richard was chosen in the other chamber to be the next speaker of the house.
