MARYVILLE, MO (2008-11-07) A Chillicothe woman has lost more than 4 thousand dollars in a scam that posed as publisher's clearing house.
Police there say the resident got taken through a mailing from Canada with the publisher's clearinghouse logo on it saying she'd won a million dollars.
A check for more than $5,000 was enclosed with instructions to cash it then send a money gram of $4,500 back to the address to claim the prize.
The check was a fake and the money she sent is gone.
Chillicothe police say if you ever have to send money to collect a potential winning, it's a scam.
