Cameron Anniversary

MARYVILLE, MO (2008-11-07) State officials are celebrating in Cameron today.

It's the 20th anniversary of the Western Missouri Correctional Center opening in the city.

Employees at the state prison have been holding chili cook-offs and other events all this week to mark the occasion.

At a ceremony this morning the corrections center held a recognition of the 25 staff that have been with the facility all 20 years of its existence.

A gift from the prison to the City of Cameron is also being presented.

The Western Missouri Correctional Center today holds more than 1,700 male inmates, with a maximum capacity of just under 2,000.
