CARROLTON, MO (2008-11-18) A Carroll County homeowner discovers a surprise in the basement: 15 sodium cyanide capsules.
Authorities say the man was cleaning his basement in Carrolton when he came across the 1950's era poison… which was presumably used to take care of coyotes and other large pests.
An environmental emergency response team from the state DNR was contacted.
Team members arrived from Macon and packed the cyanide into specialized containers, where they were taken to a Kansas City disposal sight.
The DNR says every year its sends its emergency response team to more than 300 scenes that could have a negative environmental impact.
The "go" teams are available for responding 24 hours a day every day of the week.
