The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced both the northbound and southbound rest areas located south of Mound City on Interstate 29 are scheduled for demolition.

The demolition is scheduled for Monday. Community Relation Specialist, Travis Ellis, says the reason for the demolition is construction of the new Welcome Center being built in Rock Port. He adds the demolition will also make more room for truck parking. 

The new welcome center just south of Rock Port is scheduled to open in mid June.
