The national average for the number of tornadoes is down but the fatality rate is up.
With the terrible tragedy in Alabama and now Joplin, Missouri National Weather Service says the number of storms this year is nothing out of the ordinary. Senior forecaster for the National Weather Service in Pleasent Hill Mike July says when comparing storm systems, nothing is different this year compared to last.
July adds in the next few years there will be new technology that will give meteorologists a better look at those storms. He says the technology in place now gives out advance warning but it's up to the listener to take that advice.© Copyright, KXCV
