HOLT COUNTY, MO (2011-05-26)
Expecting flooding along the Missouri River, Holt County residents are being asked to once again brace for the possibility.
The county commission has not yet issued an evacuation order, but says based on forecasts for the Missouri, the big lake area and other parts of Holt county could see flooding. The Missouri is expected to rise to 24 feet. At 22 feet the Missouri threatens the area around big lake and at 24 feet impacts a larger area of the floodplain around the community. Holt County Emergency Management and the Sheriff are urging residents simply to prepare to put in place their own plans like having medications in easy to reach containers, taking pets, and telling someone where you are going if you are required to evacuate. Again, no order has been given yet, Holt county authorities are asking for residents to prepare for the possibility.
