Hiawatha residents can now get reimbursed for updating sidewalks on their property.

The city commission has approved a plan for the cost-sharing. The city will pay $2 per square foot for sidewalks, 275 per square foot for driveway approaches, and $12 for every linear foot for curb and gutter. Hiawatha has allocated $10,000 each for sidewalk construction and for curb and gutter work. The cost-sharing program will run now through September first or until the funds are used.
