MARYVILLE, MO (2011-05-12)
The number are not out and no surprise, it was a stormy three weeks for Missouri turkey hunting in more ways than one.
Wet and cool weather meant nearly 4,000 fewer birds checked in the Show-Me-State than last year. The total for the state was 38,328. Conservation experts also say the turkey population has declined over the past year, which also meant lower numbers harvested. They say they are not worried about gobblers making a population comeback, as hens in the state of Missouri produce about 300,000 young turkeys a year.
