MARYVILLE, MO (2010-05-10) Documents obtained by K-X-C-V news show Maryville's bid to host the statewide Tour of Missouri may be in jeopardy.
That's because state organizers say funding cuts by lawmakers could force a cancellation of the bicycle race.
Maryville has been vying to host a leg of this fall's tour, but in a letter sent to the city, Tour of Missouri Vice Chair Brent Hugh says despite giving purse holders return on investment data, the state's Tourism office and Governor's office are indicating a million dollars set aside to support the event would be used elsewhere.
Tour organizers are calling for Maryville and other communities wanting to host the race to lobby state officials to keep the Tour on for September.
