MARYVILLE, MO (2010-05-24) It's looking bleaker for Maryville- or any other city- wanting to host the Tour of Missouri this year.
The Nixon Administration is witholding state funding for the bike race, and two of the state's biggest bicycle organizations are furious.
Brent Hugh is the Executive Director of the Missouri Bicyccle and Pedestrian Federation.
He says the Governor is hiding behind the Tourism Department.
But State Representative Gina Walsh- who sits on the Divsion of Tourism Board- says if you can't cut a bike race, what can you cut?
Advocates say the bike race generates dozens of times more revenue than the one million dollars it costs to host.
