Rock Port, MO (2010-05-17) The City of Rock Port agrees to continue paying a rural fire protection district for services.
At the recent board meeting Fire Chief Steve Shineman discussed paying West Atchison Rural Fire Protection District for lost taxes because of annexation.
The city currently pays the district from the fire department sales tax fund.
The board agreed that sales tax was passed to cover all expenses of the fire department, and voted to continue paying West Atchison district from that fund.
Members also got an update on the new "Restore Rock Port" group.
That organization is in the process of getting a non-profit status.
A fundraising effort will be launched in the coming weeks.
The Board of Aldermen also dropped plans to pass a drunkenness and intoxication ordinance for Rock Port.
The City Attorney discovered state statutes prohibit cities and counties from passing such ordinances.
Two residents were also appointed to the Health Board for the next year- they are Melissa Masonbrink and Andrea Carder.
