Mound City, MO (2010-05-20) The Mound City Board of Aldermen agree to put a new sales tax to the vote of the people.
If passed the proposed half cent sales tax would generate between 62 and 68 thousand dollars a year for street maintenance in Mound City.
City officials say the current income for street repairs are the state motor vehicle tax, state fuel tax, and city stickers... but those aren't keeping up with repair costs.
If Mound City residents approve the permanent revenue, it would become effected next January with funds available for use starting in March.
The Board of Aldermen are also continuing discussions with the Mound City Police Chief on an ordinance allowing golf carts and
a-t-v's on city streets.
City officials are benchmarking Savannah, King city, and Stanberry- towns with simmilar ordinances.
The issue is expected to come up again in future Board of Aldermen meetings.
