Hiawatha, Ks. (2010-05-14) The City of Hiawatha is considering leasing or even selling a part of Bruning Park to Brown County for a new communications tower.
The Brown County Sheriff's office wants to put up a 350 foot communication tower so that all Sheriff's office transmissions could be located at one tower.
The plan is for Midwest Mobile Radio to construct the tower, then use it as well for its communications equipment.
Hiawatha's City Manager is negotiating with the Brown County Commission on its preference of leasing the property from the city or purchasing about 3 hundred square feet of Bruning Park for the tower and support cables.
Those talks are continuing and the project must also be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration.... which could take at least 6 months.
