Hiawatha, KS (2009-05-27) The city of Hiawatha Kansas continues talking with local townships on the need for upgrading fire protection services.
At the last City Council meeting members discussed plans with Pandonia and Hiawatha township representatives.
The city has a pump and roll truck from 1972 in need of repairs.
The suggestion was made a county-wide mill levy be investigated.
About 35 to 4o percent of the fire runs are out of the city limits.
The city of hHawatha says the pump truck is in such bad shape it will be taken out of service soon.
Mayor Gernon suggested if all entities help pay for equipment, it would be less painful for each taxpayer.
The city also voted to hire a contractor to clean up a hazardous property at 209 Utah, after the property's owner told the city his backhoe broke down april 8th.
