Fire Danger

Wayman

Southern Iowa/SE Nebraska (2010-05-04) Grassland fire risk are forcing weather officials to warn against any burning today in Nebraska and parts of Iowa.

The grassland fire danger index shows fire risk as extreme today , with the National Weather Service saying there is an extreme danger.

That means fires can start quickly and spread fast.

Low humidity combined with high winds and warm temperatures are drying out the region and led to the warning.

The National Weather Service says any fire is potentially serious and all outdoor burning should be avoided in this area.

The counties in Iowa include Freemont, Mills, Montgomery and Page. Nebraska counties in our listening area include Nemaha and Richardson with much of Nebraska covered in the advisory.
