Caldwell County, MO (2009-05-27) A state audit of Caldwell County finds room for improvement.

The routine audit says accounting records of the Caldwell County Clerk and County Treasurer should be reconciled on a monthly basis.

Auditors also found several instances where amounts on budget documents for the annual budget were obtained and didn't agree with any records of the County Clerk or Treasurer.

They point to numerous funds and accounts that went over budget- sometimes by hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Caldwell County officials say they'll begin reviewing the budget on a monthly basis to try and avoid cost overruns, and follow other recommendations by the State Auditors.
