It was too much Alex Sullivan and DeAngelo Hailey last night as the Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team defeated Missouri Western 66-46 in the opening round of the M-I-double-A postseason basketball tournament at Bearcat Arena.
Sullivan pumped in 27 points and tied his career high knocking down 8 three-pointers...Hailey scored 21 points behind five three's. Northwest also scored 22 points off of Griffon turnovers in the win. Bearcat men's head coach Ben McCollum says it was a good win for his team.
The Bearcats improve to 19-9 and advance to the quarterfinals where they will meet Northeastern State in a 2:15 game Thursday afternoon at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
#6 Central Oklahoma 103, #11 Southwest Baptist 89
Central Oklahoma scored 65 points in the first half as they sprinted to a first round victory in the MIAA Tournament. The Bronchos shot .600 percent as they knocked off a Southwest Baptist team that shot .530 to move on in tourney.
The Bronchos will advance to face Washburn in the quarterfinals at 8:15 p.m. from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.

Pittsburg State scored the final six points of the game as they put insurance on their one point lead with just 46 seconds to play. Pittsburg State erased an eight point Truman lead from early in the second half to move on in the tournament.
The Gorillas advance to face Central Missouri at 6 p.m. on March 7 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
#9 Missouri Southern 68, #8 Emporia State 66
Marquis Addison hit two free throws with two seconds to play as Missouri Southern knocked off Emporia State on the road. The Lions erased a ten-point halftime deficit to advance to the quarterfinals in the MIAA Tournament.
Missouri Southern will face top seeded Fort Hays State at 12 noon on March 7 from Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Mo.
The Northwest women's basketball team goes to Joplin tonight for their first round match up in the MIAA tournament as they battle Missouri Southern. The Bearcats are the 9 seed and Missouri Southern is seeded 8. Northwest though is coming off their best win of the season defeating Truman State Saturday afternoon. Bearcat women's head coach Mark Kellogg says his team is playing well going into the tournament.

Northwest Missouri State’s Alvaro Riveros was named MIAA Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Monday announced by the league. Riveros improved to 4-0 on the season with a dominating 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. Riveros also claimed a No. 3 doubles win to help the Bearcats roll past UMSL 8-1. Riveros is also 3-1 on the season in doubles action as Northwest has won its last two matches, both over top 10 regional teams. The 6-1 freshman is a native of Heredia, Costa Rica where he attended Santa Cecilia High School. The 25th-ranked Northwest men’s tennis team returns to action March 7 when the Bearcats host Missouri Valley at 2:30 p.m. The Bearcats are 3-1 on the season and coming off a win over 17th-ranked Drury last weekend.
