The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat men's basketball team will be the fifth seed in the MIAA tournament following Saturday's loss to Truman State at Bearcat Arena. Northwest saw a 16 point lead in the second half slip away in losing to the Bulldogs 63 to 56. Truman State 6-9 junior center Mike Carlson hit seven three pointers including 3 in the final four minutes on his way to a game high 29 points. The loss coupled with a Washburn win over Central Missouri gives the Bearcat men the five-seed in the M-I-double-A tournament and a match up with Missouri Western Monday at Bearcat Arena. The Griffons are the 12th seed. Gametime Monday is 7 o'clock...we'll have the broadcast on KXCV/KRNW beginning at 6:40 with our pregame.

Four Bearcat men's basketball players have received post-season honors from the M-I-double-A. Junior Center Dillion Starzl and senior guards DeAngelo Hailey and Alex Sullivan were named to the Honorable Mention team and sophomore Matt Wallace earned a spot on the conference's All-Defensive team.

The Northwest Missouri State women's team goes into the conference post-season tournament as the 9th seed and will travel to Joplin tomorrow night for a match up with 8th seed Missouri Southern. The Bearcat women are coming off one of their best performances of the season defeating 25th-ranked Truman State Saturday afternoon 72-65. Northwest had five players score in double-figures led by Tember Schechinger (Scheck-in-jer) with 16 points...Maggie Marnin had 14 points...Monique Stevens had 12 points, seven rebounds and 8 assists...Meridee Scott and Alexis Boeh (Bay) added 11 points apiece. The Bearcat women's game with Missouri Southern tomorrow night can be heard on KXCV/KRNW beginning at 6:40 with our pregame before a 7 o'clock tip-off.

The Bearcat men's and women's tennis teams posted wins Saturday over Missouri-St. Louis in matches held at the St. Joseph Racquet Club. The Bearcat men easily defeated Missouri-St. Louis 8-1 while the women edged UMSL 5-4. The Northwest Missouri State Baseball team dropped all three games of a weekend series with Central Oklahoma that was moved to Edmond, Oklahoma from Maryville due to inclement weather. Northwest lost both ends of a doubleheader yesterday...losing 18-8 in the first game and dropping a 10-8 decision in extra innings in the second. The Bearcats on Saturday lost to Central Oklahoma 6-1. Northwest is now 2-11 overall and 2-8 in the MIAA. Northwest will be heading to Topeka, Kan. to take on Washburn Wednesday for a MIAA conference double-header with first pitch scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

In the Missouri High School State Basketball tournament...in Class 1...the boy's quarterfinals saw Stanberry advance to the semi-finals in Columbia with a 53-51 win over Wellington Napolean. They will face Meadville, who defeated Marion County 42-35. That semifinal game will be played Thursday at five o'clock at the Hearnes Center. The Mercer girls also advance to the semifinals with a 59-39 win over North Andrew and will play at 8:20 in the semifinals Thursday night at the Hearnes Center. In the Class 2 tournament...the Maysville girls were defeated by Skyline 61-33...but the Marceline girls advanced with 41-37 victory over Neelyville. In the Class 3 tournament...the Cameron girls advance to the semifinals with a 55-52 win over Stockton. Cameron plays St. James Thursday at 5 o'clock at Mizzou Arena.
