Some lawmakers in the Missouri state capitol are pushing to strike down a set of education standards.
Three years ago, the Department of Secondary and Elementary Education adopted the nationwide standards, called Common core. Some Republican lawmakers say education officials should have talked to the legislature before taking that action. Now, members of the Missouri House and Senate are moving towards taking those standards out of the classrooms. Education Commissioner Chris Nicastro says removing the standards would prevent students from performing on tests like the GED and ACT.
