MARYVILLE, MO (2012-03-05)
St. Francis Hospital in Maryville is starting a new physician hospitalist program.
The hospital is joining over 3,000 hospitals in adopting such a progressive patient care program. The goal is for there to be more doctors working on behalf of northwest Missouri and southwest Iowa residents. St. Francis Vice president of medical affairs Dr. Scott Holman says the patient's hospital stay will be enhanced by physician hospitalists who are up to date on their latest information. Holman says this will carry over to outpatient care as well, with a smoother transition from the nearby hospital care. As part of this, a complete hospitalization summary is sent to each patient's primary care provider upon discharge. Vice president of operations and planning at St. Francis, Ty Griffith, says there are over 30,000 physician hospitalists nationwide, and because of their monitoring of patient conditions throughout the day, the recovery process is smoother and quicker.
