State officials say school districts across Missouri are being targeted and bilked out of thousands of dollars.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education says a fraudulent check has transferred more than $27,000 out of Chillicothe's school district to the Bank of America. More than $35,000 was taken from the Cabool District near Springfield. Officials say the fake checks have the school district's account numbers and even authorized signatures on them. Dese spokeswoman Michele Clark says this follows nearly 40 districts reporting attempts at money transfers last month. Clark says the state is alerting all school districts.
Clark adds the Missouri Attorney General's Office is gathering information about the money transfers from the school districts.© Copyright, KXCV
