MARYVILLE, MO (2011-03-14)
Here's another way the recession is hitting education in our district: Schools are pulling back on hiring new teachers.
A recent Education Expo in Maryville offered about 200 education majors the chance to talk to hiring officers at school districts across the region about potential jobs. But organizers say even the larger urban districts which normally fill a hundred positions at a time are down to about 10 openings. Rob Deaver is the superintendent at Gallatin and says education in Missouri is facing many unknowns right now. About 70 school districts were looking to fill positions at Friday's Education Expo in Maryville.
