Spring Break in Mexico

MARYVILLE, MO (2010-3-17) The murder of a U.S. consulate employee, her husband, and the drug-related violence in Mexico have government officials sending warnings to colleges and their students to be cautions if traveling to mexico for spring break.

The U.S. embassy urge U.S. citizens to reconsider unnecessary travel to parts of Durango, Coahuila, and Chihuahua States. Popular destinations, Tijuana and Juarez are also considered very dangerous. 50 people were killed this part weekend in Juarez. Nearly 200 were killed in Mexico in the last several months. Northwest study abroad coordinator, Jeaneth Puriel says students traveling to Mexico should follow guidlines of the U.S. embassy and avoid dangerous situations involving drugs, alocohol, and other violent areas.
