MARYVILLE, MO (2010-3-31) Making its first showing at the national collegiate soils contest, Northwest's soils team placed 15th amoung 21 teams, with two members who scored quite high marks.
Competing against 84 individuals, Northwest's Jeremiah Mullock placed 15th and Justin Findley place 18th. Mullock was also the high scorer on one of the three pits. During a soil judging contest, students describe and classify the soil profile in several pits. They also determine the soil characteristics within a time limit. The student's final description are ranked in comparison to official judges to determine the winner.
