MARYVILLE, MO (2010-3-19) Missouri lawmakers are expected to wrap up budget bill work today before leaving for the weekend.
And it's still not looking good for K-through-12 education funding in Missouri. Budget writers have identified more than 65 million dollars they plan to trim from various departments of State government without impacting critical services. The house budget chair says he's still working on fully funding Missouri's K-12 schools. But democrat Rachel Storch who also sits on the committee says that may not be possible. Missouri governor Nixon has recommended boosting K-12 education funding by $18 million, but the increase would need $105 million to fully funded. A debate and vote on the State budget is expected next week.
