ATCHISON COUNTY, MO (2012-06-26)
The Rock Port Welcome Center in Atchison County opens tomorrow morning.
The Missouri Department of Transportation began work on this new facility last August. MO-DOT Customer Relations Manager, Melissa Black says the theme of the center in Rock Port is "Energy Conservation and Alternative Energy: Past and Present." She says in addition to educating the public about energy, the building was designed with energy conservation and sustainability in mind.
Black says a formal dedication ceremony tomorrow morning at 10:00 is open to the public. At the ceremony, the welcome center will be re-dedicated to Senator Hardin Cox and a Blue Star Memorial Highway bronze marker will be re-dedicated. The new welcome center is on Interstate 29 just south of Rock Port and is accessible only from southbound I-29.
