Spider Mites

Holley

CAMERON, MO (2012-06-26)

Spotted spider mites have been found in a soybean field in Cameron, Missouri.

The mites are a pest that attack fields during dry weather. University of Missouri Agronomist, Wayne Flanary says under severe drought conditions, mite populations can double every 5 to 7 days. He adds it's important for farmers to check for the mites since they can be carried by the wind and can cause severe damage to crops.

Flanary adds rains can cause the mite populations to decline but fields should continue to be scouted.
