KANSAS CITY, MO (2012-06-19)
The Kansas City district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded more contracts for fixing damaged levees on the Missouri River.
Corps officials say they're aiming to finish repairs by November on all of the levees within the district that were damaged by last year's massive flooding. To date, the Corps says it has awarded 20 contracts worth more than $18 million to fix 25 segments of levees in the lower Missouri basin. Nine projects have been completed for 11 levee districts. Work was finished Friday on the Kansas Department of Corrections levee system at Leavenworth, Kan. Officials still need to award 10 contracts to repair 23 levee segments.
