Hurst On Recovery

Wayman

MO (2012-06-20)

Northwest Missouri farmer and President of the state Farm Bureau Blake Hurst says producers are making some headway after the record Missouri River flooding this time last year.

Hundreds of thousands of acres of farmland went underwater last summer and most of the fall in the four state Midwest Corners area and in the aftermath large erosion fissures and feet of river sand made planting in thousands of acres impossible. Hurst says despite headway in some locations, many producers could be dealing with recovering their crop land for years to come.

Aid from the Farm Services Agency and other federal offices continues to be used by thousands of land owners up and down the Missouri River basin.
