MAYSVILLE, MO (2012-06-25)
The John Deere dealership in Maysville is being forced to close, but a petition drive is trying to keep it open.
The Wells Implement dealership has been told by the corporate farm machinery company it's pulling the franchise from the Maysville location because the sales volume isn't high enough for company standards for market share. Co-owner Mike Huffaker says he's seen sales drop because of the livestock-heavy Maysville area compared to other machinery dealers in a row crop intensive farming region. Still, he says business is good for his location, and a closure would impact the entire region.Huffaker estimates a petition at his dealership in Maysville and several petitions circulating other places have 4 to 5 hundred signatures asking the dealer be allowed to stay open.
