Cattle Thefts

Wayman

2012-06-08

Cattle thefts are on the rise in Missouri.

Although reports continue throughout the state, the crime appears to be especially popular in southwest Missouri, with more than a hundred cows missing this year. Rural Crimes Sergeant for the Missouri Highway Patrol Jason Clark says high cattle prices and a struggling economy are to blame.

The Missouri legislature created a Livestock and Farm Protection Task Force in 2009 to address the issue, but experts predict as long as economic times are tough the relatively easy crime will continue.
