BETHANY, MO (2012-06-11)
North Missouri is now home to the first purebred bison born in the state since the 1840's.
A herd of 36 bison were released onto the Dunn Ranch north of Bethany last October. Eight bison calves have been born this spring- 3 on Mother's Day a few weeks ago. The pure-gene bison are roaming 12 hundred acres of the Dunn Ranch in a project to help restore native grazing patterns and help conserve the tallgrass prairie at Dunn Ranch. Eventually another 12 hundred acres will be added to their roaming area.
