The hospital in Maryville says it will only hire non-smokers starting July 1st.

St. Francis hospital is a member of SSM Health Care, which is implementing the new policy at all of its medical centers statewide. Ty Griffith is the vice president of operations at St. Francis in Maryville and says applicants will have to be tobacco-free for 6 months before the job interview. He says the decision is about health leadership.

St. Francis will also require all employees in the hospital to get flu shots every season. The new policies go into effect this Friday.
