ST. JOSEPH, MO (2011-06-28)
The Missouri River is expected to rise in St. Joseph tomorrow.
The Army Corp of Engineers are releasing 160,000 cubic feet per second from the Gavins Point Dam. With this city officials predict the river to come up from 27 feet to 28.6 feet. Also due to these rising river levels, Sugar Lake is under a voluntary evacuation and Heritage Park Softball Complex is closed. City yards, located at 2316 South 3rd Street has been vacated due to water entering the basement. Those operation have been relocated to the recycling center. During high water residents are urged not to travel through the affected areas. The large volume of traffic along with rising waters is creating a potentially dangerous situation for motorists and residents.
