Northwest Budget

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-06-24)

The Board of regents at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville approve an $81 million budget for the upcoming year, but not after hearing about concerns over deferred maintenance of buildings on campus and shrinking state funding.

The budget increased less than half a million from last fiscal year. Recent inspections of the university's buildings found about $120 million needed to take care of the current infrastructure. Money for those repairs has been harder to find over the last decade, as the state continues cutting funding to Missouri's colleges and universities. Northwest vice president for finance Stacy Carrick says Northwest is relying on a shrinking pool of money, but still keeping students and staff safe.

In the past year Northwest has saved a million and a half dollars and put that toward student scholarships and other high-priority items.
