Funeral services will be Saturday for a longtime Maryville leader and the first graduate dean at the university.
Dr. Leon Miller died in his hometown of Springfield Missouri on Saturday. He would have been 92 years old today. Miller and his wife Mary Belle were 60-year residents of Maryville with Dr. Miller holding several administrative roles at Northwest Missouri State University including chair of the division of education and psychology and director of the Horace Mann Lab school, dean of instruction, and became the first graduate dean from 1969 to 1985, when he retired. Miller was active in the Lions Club in Maryville and served as district governor, receiving the Lions International Humanitarian Award. It was through Miller's leadership the Lions helped fund KXCV's "Audio Reader" program for the visually impaired. Visitation for Dr. Leon Miller will be tomorrow night from 6 to 8 at Price Funeral Home. His funeral service will be Saturday at Hope Lutheran Church in Maryville with burial at Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
