Governor Flooding

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-06-21)

As flood waters rise, Missouri's governor briefed 4 state lawmakers and about two dozen emergency managers and local officials from across northwest Missouri yesterday afternoon in St. Joseph.

The governor came in from a military fly-over above the flooding Missouri River in Holt and Atchison counties. That's also where a Blackhawk helicopter was used yesterday in the Rockport area to help re-enforce stressed levees. Governor Nixon says the amount of water being released by the Corps of Engineers is unprecedented.

Water being released upstream on the Missouri River has gone past the 150,000 cubic feet per second planned for. The governor has directed the Missouri National Guard to prepare for 200,000 cubic feet per second in the coming weeks, although he says he's been given no firm plan for that amount from the Corps of Engineers.
