KANSAS CITY, MO (2011-06-27)
As we enter another week of flooding along the Missouri River, emergency managers are repeating their warnings: Early preparations and staying alert can save lives.
Levees from Hamburg Iowa to Big Lake in Missouri have been collapsing or have been overtopped by the flood waters. Communities downstream like Atchison Kansas and St. Joseph Missouri are constantly monitoring for cracks or sand boils in the levees protecting their communities. Holt County Emergency manager Gary Parker says it's best if residents in low areas can pack early and pay attention.Emergency officials also say it's a good idea to tell people you are evacuating so they know where you will be.
