MARYVILLE, MO (2011-06-29)
Missouri's governor has now formally requested a federal emergency declaration because of flooding from the Missouri River.
Governor Nixon says ongoing problems the next two months are expected to flood every county in the state that borders the Missouri River. Among the list of items the state wants federal money for are work and services to save lives, support of long-term shelter operations for communities forced to evacuate, and technical assistance and equipment for sandbagging and pumping operations. Several state agencies are already coordinating in the flood fight. The federal disaster declaration, if granted, would support those efforts even more.
