St. Joseph, MO (2010-6-11) A St. Joseph police officer suffered minor injuries during a struggle with an 18 year old St. Joseph man early this morning.
According to a release from the St. Joseph Police Department, the officer was injured after he and a supervisor stopped a vehicle on South 20th Street in St. Joseph. During the stop, the driver tried to flee and became involved in a physical struggle with the officer when a loaded firearm fell from the driver's clothing.
Both the driver and an 18 year old passenger were arrested. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a second loaded firearm and what is believed to be narcotics. Police report possibly one or both of the firearms had previously been reported stolen. The driver of the car was arrested for investigation of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. The passenger was arrested for investigation of possession of a controlled substance.
