Of the nearly 490 million dollars lawmakers cut from the state budget in April, nearly 26 million came from the Department of Mental Health.
Jan Heckemeyer is the agency's Deputy Director for Administration.
She says they're looking for ways to have the feds and the private sector shoulder more of the financial burden for psychiatiric services, drug and alcohol help, and medicaid patients.
Governor Nixon has until the end of this month to sign the state budget into law.
