Big Lake, MO (2010-06-18) Holt County officials are monitoring a break of a levee on the Missouri River this morning five miles north of Big Lake.
Holt County Clerk Kathy Kunkle says resident's near Big Lake are taking part in a voluntary evacuation of their homes at this time. Kunkle says the levee break is currently affecting several corn and soybean fields near the Missouri River but she anticipates homes to be affected by later this evening.
According to Kunkel, various law enforcement and county officials will be watching the situation carefully over the next several hours.
Kunkel adds the high winds this afternoon are giving officials some concern on other levee's along the Missouri River that have been sandbagged in Holt County... but so far those have been holding.
