Holt County, MO (2010-06-24) Flooding along the Missouri since Monday continues... with levels not expected to go down for days.
In fact this morning the Army Corps (core) of Engineers announced it's started releasing thousands of gallons of water into the Missouri River from a dam in South Dakota to relieve pressure there.
Holt County Emergency Management officials tell us that water should reach North Missouri around Monday.... extending the flood concerns in Atchison and Holt counties.
The Village of Fortescue in Holt is preparing and on standby for evacuation.
Already more than 550 homes in the Big Lake area have been evacuated.
Levee District Number 9 west of Forest City has also been over topped... flooding additional agricultural acreages.
St. Joseph's river level on the Missouri is expected to remain above flood stage through Monday... and Lewis and Clark State Park campgrounds at Weston have been evacuated and are now closed.
Forecasts say the levels should impact Platte City.... with the Missouri cresting there tomorrow afternoon.
