St. Joseph, MO (2010-06-29) We're now in week number 3 of the widespread flooding in Northwest Missouri, and getting a better sense of how big the disaster is.
The Red Cross says it helped 20 families on Sunday alone- residents who have lost their homes in the recent flooding.
It says well over 5 thousand meals and snacks have been served in the Holt County area since flooding began.
A service delivery site is now open for anyone needing assistance.
It's in the United Methodist Church in Mound City- that's on East 7th Street.
It will be running from 9 to 5 Monday through Saturday... noon to 5 on Sundays.
And the Missouri National Guard confirms it's ramping up operations in Northwest Missouri recovery efforts.
As of last Thursday 33 soldiers and airmen were on the ground in what it dubs "Operation Northwest Crest".
The citizen soldiers and airmen are manning traffic control points, monitoring levees, and serving the local emergency operations centers in Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, and Holt counties.
The Northwest Missouri soldiers and airmen say they're already comfortable with the teamwork... as both groups recently put on the "Speed of Sound" air show just a few weeks ago.
