MARYVILLE, MO (2009-06-09) A grass-roots effort has begun in Maryville that would ban smoking in all workplaces.
A few years ago Maryville became the first City in Missouri to ban smoking in all restaurants.
At last night's City Council meeting members of the "Citizens for Smoke Free Nodaway County" urged Council members to investigate protecting employees from second smoke found in any workplace within Maryville.
Organizer Terri Harr offered to find similar ordinances for Maryville's consideration.
Council members said they would look at the possibility and possibly schedule public hearings to gauge interest in banning workplace smoking.
Council also approved re-appointing to the Public Library Board Julie Filips, Larry Anderson and Delbert Biehl (beel)… and re-appointing Loretta Kissinger to the Maryville Housing Authority Board.
