TRACY, MO (2012-07-27)
After being removed as mayor of Tracy two weeks ago, Rita Rhoads is serving the city in a different role.
A judge removed Rhoads from office earlier this month for violating Missouri's ban on nepotism by elected officials. Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd filed a civil action seeking her removal for hiring her son-in-law to perform some repair work for the city. On Wednesday, the Board of Aldermen appointed board president Julie Thomas to replace Rhoads as mayor. The board then appointed Rhoads to replace Thomas on the board until her term expires next April. The Kansas City Star reports city attorney Lisa Rehard said nothing prevented the board from appointing Rhoads.
