MARYVILLE, MO (2012-07-02)
When Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed the state's budget for this fiscal year, he cut nearly 9 million dollars for the state's public colleges and universities.
This marks the third consecutive year institutions of higher education have seen their core state funding reduced. For Northwest Missouri State University, the cut translates to another nearly 300 thousand dollars cut. University President, Dr. John Jasinski says for the past three years, university officials have been planning for cuts. Still, the news from Jefferson City was not welcome.
Jasinski says university officials have been trimming the school's budget by restructuring, re-financing bonds and reducing operational budgets. He says that work will continue to plan for possible cuts in the future.
